It’s a great honour to welcome you to Mysore, India, the venue for the 39th COSPAR Scientific Assembly. This is the second time the COSPAR Assembly is being held in India. First it was last held in 1979 in Bangalore (now renamed as Bengaluru).

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) of the Department of Space, Government of India, with its Headquarters at Bengaluru, has the complete responsibility of organising the 39th COSPAR Assembly.  ISRO is dedicated to research, development and application of space science and technology for the services of common man in India.  Bengaluru has also gained worldwide reputation as an important Indian city of Science besides being the home of major industries dealing with space, aeronautics, electronics and biotechnology.

Mysore, the city of Palaces, situated just about 150 km away from Bengaluru, has never failed to mesmerise tourists with its quaint charm, rich heritage, magnificent palaces, very well laid-out gardens, imposing buildings, broad shady avenues and sacred temples. Mysore also hosts several academic institutions and Information Technology (IT) related companies. The University of Mysore is one of the oldest Universities in India and the first in the state of Karnataka. The city of Mysore located in the midst of forests, bird sanctuaries, historical monuments and architectural wonders uniquely combines ancient heritage with modernity.  There is a charm about the city that reaches out and touches everyone.

Prominent amongst the IT companies in Mysore is Infosys Technologies Limited which is the venue for the COSPAR Scientific Assembly.  Infosys, Mysore is Asia’s largest training center in information technology, training thousands of engineering graduates.  The beautifully laid out campus with its state-of-the-art facilities matches perfectly the needs of the Assembly.

We believe that the 39th COSPAR Assembly with its gathering of eminent space scientists from different parts of the world will stimulate a creative exchange of ideas among the participants.  We hope that you will enjoy your visit to Mysore, one of the most beautiful and exciting places in India. We are keenly looking forward to welcoming you to Mysore in July 2012.
